Riding That TamPony “Rap

September 17, 2019 by Dr. Lisa Masterson Filed Under: Ask Dr. Lisa, Beauty & Fashion, Health & Wellness, In the News, Uncategorized

As women, many of us struggle with our “Time of the Month.” It can be uncomfortable, inconvenient, messy, embarrassing and an all-around pain. But it’s also magical. The female reproductive system is nothing short of a miracle and I encourage my patients to embrace their menstruation proudly.

I wrote this rap to share with all of you. It is my hope that we can remove the “stigma” of our periods and embrace the power of our periods! Hope you enjoy!

Riding That Tampony (Rap)

There’s no shame in it,
It’s only nature’s way
I’m here to tell you girl:
“Woman up, it’s ok”
Your period is a power
You bloomin, like a flower
But when you hide your phone
Cuz you feeling “stay at home-y”
Just know you’re not alone
Cuz we all ridin that TamPony

Granny’s stuck in traffic
It’s Strawberry week today
Mother Nature wrote a rain check
Aunt Flow is here to stay
There’s no taboo, there’s no sin
I’m just Checkin’ in the red roof inn
You know the Brits are landin’ again
Red badge of courage from my monthly friend
Calling it girl flu doesn’t make any sense
More like a time for scheduled maintenance

There’s no shame in it,
It’s only nature’s way
I’m here to tell you girl:
“Woman up, it’s okay”
You’re period is a power
You bloomin, like a flower
But when you hide your phone
Cuz you’re feelin “stay at home-y”
Just know you’re not alone
Cuz we all ridin that TamPony

Call it moon time, crimson tide, let Moses time begin
Say Communists are in the funhouse
Say I’m havin the painter’s in
Don’t say riding a red moose
Cut those hater terms loose
So No “on the rag”, no it’s the curse, no ketchup cooch,
No shark week, no monstration, no jammy clam
Say I’m a woman, that’s what I am

There’s no shame in it,
It’s only nature’s way
I’m here to tell you girl:
“Woman up, it’s okay”
You’re period is a power
You bloomin, like a flower
But when you hide your phone
Cuz you’re feelin “stay at home-y”
Just know you’re not alone
Cuz we all ridin that Tampony

Virtual Reality Therapy

June 20, 2019 by Will Armstrong Filed Under: Ask Dr. Lisa, Beauty & Fashion, Categories, Health & Wellness, Uncategorized

Dr. Lisa Masterson Explains the Power of VR.

Have you ever wanted to just escape?

This new technology can take you anywhere you want to go. And it’s not just for video Gamers, It is also being used to help people meditate and treat certain mental issues and possibly diagnose some medical conditions. Patients receiving virtual reality therapy navigate through digitally created environments and perform certain tasks often tailored to treat a specific disorder. It is most often used currently for phobias, PTSD, body dysmorphia, to help stroke patients and those diagnosed with autism and improve social skills.

VRT uses specially programmed computers and visual immersion devices and artificially created environments to give the patient a simulated experience that can then be used to diagnose and treat certain conditions. We have it in the spa for patients to relax with but give it a try. I think it is a whole new frontier. Exciting!

IV Therapy

May 29, 2019 by Dr. Lisa Masterson Filed Under: Beauty & Fashion, Health & Wellness, Uncategorized

In this day and age, when our food is processed or so lacking in vitamins and people are on fad diets or faced with digestive issues and gut bacteria issues, IV therapy may be a real way to get the vitamins that you need to feel good or give you that edge.

The Vitamins and nutrients In the IVs are involved in almost all processes in our body.

What is IV vitamin therapy? IV stands for intravenous. A small plastic tube is inserted into the vein using a needle that is quickly removed once the plastic tubing is advanced into the vein.

IV drips usually take about 45 – 60 min to infuse.

Some people also chose to get a vitamin shot along with their IV Therapy. An IM shot is a quick injection into the gluteal (buttock)or deltoid(shoulder) muscle.

IV Vitamin therapy works by administration of vitamins, minerals and amino acids directly into the bloodstream, by bypassing the digestive system (stomach).

This provides increased cell absorption and 100% bioavailability of vitamins through IV infusion.

Booster shots are administered via intramuscular (IM) injection so there is no Gi metabolism , which also allows for increased absorption.

With oral supplements you only get about 20% absorption after it goes through the digestive system. IV vitamins remain in your system and maintain your levels for 2 – 3 weeks and an IM shot is equivalent to taking one week of oral vitamins.

So let’s start in my Ocean Oasis Spa in the Ocean Room with IV therapy. Most people think of it for hangovers but depending what unique blend of vitamins you get in your IV cocktail it is possible to boost metabolism, so fantastic as a weight loss assist! And a well kept secret are other additions like Glutathione, huge antioxidant, that can make the skin appear brighter and radiant!

You can get this here all while looking at the Ocean, maybe even catch a romantic Sunset!

DOs and DON’TS of Eyelash extension

March 21, 2017 by Will Armstrong Filed Under: Ask Dr. Lisa, Beauty & Fashion, Health & Wellness

Hello and welcome to Health in Heels with Dr. Lisa!

We are all looking for a fuller, and natural looking lash. If you find mascara and falsies to look too heavy and fake, and good lash extension may be exactly what you are looking for.

As opposed to falsies (which glue a prepared lash on top of your current lashes), lash extensions volumize your lashes by applying single lashes in between your lashes for a fuller, more natural look. Here are some things when considering lash extensions.

1: Research your technician. Make sure they are licensed and they have examples of work to show you. Remember this person is applying glue very close to your eyeball, so you want to be very sure they have the proper training. You’ll want them to do a “patch test” to make sure you don’t have an allergic reaction to the lash glue.

2: Lashes Extensions come in all different thicknesses, lengths, and degree of curl. Make sure your lash technician does a thorough consultation before getting started to make sure you are getting the lashes you want. You don’t want to go in wanting a little extra volume and leave with dramatic super dense lashes, or vice versa. Once you’re ready to begin, expect to be in the chair for about two hours.

3: Lash Extension aftercare is SUPER important. Groom your lashes daily with a clean spoolie. Your lashes exist to catch dirt and debris, so it’s important to wash them daily. Gently rub diluted baby shampoo over your lashes once a day.

4: Ditch the waterproof mascara (or any oil based product for that matter). Waterproof eye make-up contains oils that destroy the lash glue and will result in your lashes falling out prematurely. Check the ingredients of your makeup and removers before applying them near your lash extensions.

5: Your lash extensions should lash as long as your natural lash cycle (about six to eight weeks). Make sure your lashes make it by treating them gently. Don’t rub your eyes with a towel or sleep face down on a pillow.

Follow these tips and you’re sure to have the perfect lashes you will love.

The Right Brazilian: Waxing Tips

March 8, 2017 by Will Armstrong Filed Under: Ask Dr. Lisa, Beauty & Fashion, Health & Wellness

Welcome to Health in Heels with Dr. Lisa,

Spring Break is coming up in April, and that means bathing suit season is right around the corner. If you want the smoothest bikini area, you can’t beat a Brazilian wax. Especially if you are a first-timer, Brazilians can be a little scary, but they don’t have to be.

Here are a few tips before you get your wax on:

  1. You want the hair to be at least a quarter-inch long, which means not shaving for two to four weeks, depending on how quickly your hair grows.
  2. It’s going to hurt, especially if it’s your first time. Why? The bulb of a first-timer’s hair is larger than the pore it’s being pulled from. Regular waxes make the hair finer and the bulb smaller. But even if you are a regular, it’s still going to hurt. You can use an OTC Lidocaine spray [recommendation] 10 minutes before your wax to help with the pain.
  3. You can also take an anti-inflammatoires like Ibuprofen.
  4. If you are on your period, you can still get a Brazilian, but alert your waxing technician in advance and wear a tampon. Most technicians are OK with working around the string, but it may hurt more since your skin is more sensitive during your period.
  5. After the wax use a soothing serum with aloe vera or tea tree lotion to prevent ingrown hairs.
  6. And exfoliating between waxing helps.
  7. You should only get a Brazilian wax if you have healthy skin. Do not go to the the salon if you have a sunburn, or you have a skin condition like psoriasis or sores.

Something to think about:
If you are on accutane [other medications]- the Rx leaves skin thinner and susceptible to tearing.

Also, do not go tanning right after a Brazilian wax. The waxing removes a layer of skin vital to UV Ray Protection.
